JoSAA Strategy Guide
JoSAA Fee Deadlines & PAF Traps
In JoSAA, missing payment windows can cancel your seat. For NIT+ allotments, PAF after final round is critical.
Golden rule
Never assume you can pay later. Deadline misses are often treated as seat forfeiture, not recoverable delay.
How fee and PAF flow works
- After allotment, seat acceptance fee must be paid within the round timeline to keep seat status active.
- Willingness action and payment timelines must stay aligned; incomplete action flow can invalidate allotment.
- For NIT+ tracks, post-allotment payment (PAF) after final round is mandatory to retain seat in many flows.
Common payment mistakes
- Waiting until deadline day and missing cut-off due to payment/portal delays.
- Assuming seat acceptance fee already covers all later payment obligations.
- Ignoring NIT+ PAF requirement after final round.
- Taking willingness action but not completing payment confirmation evidence.
Before each round deadline (60-second checklist)
- Check official schedule for today’s exact cutoff timestamp.
- Confirm fee payment is successful and reflected in portal status.
- For NIT+, confirm whether PAF is due after final round and mark calendar.
- Keep payment receipts/screenshots for audit and dispute safety.
The Trap
You complete choice/willingness steps but delay payment. Deadline passes, seat gets cancelled, and recovery paths are limited.
The Smart Way
Treat payment as same-priority as willingness action. Finish both early, verify status, keep proof.
Build a safer JoSAA list
Plan list + willingness strategy with deadline risk in mind so operational misses don’t nullify good choices.
